Two “Health” Foods You DON’T Need Anymore
It is summer and time to kick your diet and exercise routine into high gear!
The American Council on Exercise has released a list of “health” foods individuals should kick to the curb, as these foods no not live up to their health benefit hype. ACE Fitness has provided an explanation of why these foods are NOT necessary in a balanced, healthy nutrition plan.
ACE fully supports eating less meat. However, veggie burgers have made it to the KICK list because not all are created equal. Those made with soy “meats” often contain a highly refined, nutrient-stripped product. Soy consumption is already unhealthily high in the US, with 95% of the soy consumed being potentially GMO (genetically modified organism). It’s better to choose vegetarian protein alternatives like beans and split peas.
Although agave nectar starts out in a natural state since it comes from the agave plant, it is processed and refined just like all other sugars, including high fructose corn sugar. In fact, most agave nectars contain 70%-80% fructose, which is even more than what is found in high-fructose corn syrup. Your best bet is to just steer clear of all sugars, including table sugar, honey, raw sugar, maple syrup, corn syrup and agave. If you need sweetener, try Stevia, a sugar substitute derived from the leaves of the South American stevia plant.
